1976 – SAKAI America, Inc. was established in Wilmington, Delaware, USA for the purpose of importing/exporting and selling SAKAI compaction and roadbuilding equipment.
1977 – The first SAKAI dealer in North America was signed on: Clark Machinery Company in Arkansas. They are still a dealer all these decades later.
2000 – After decades of importing only, SAKAI America Manufacturing, Inc. was established in Adairsville, GA for purposes of production of soil compactors and asphalt rollers.
2001 – First US-built roller comes off the assembly line in Adairsville. This first SV510D smooth drum 84″ soil compactor is still in use by its original owner today in the communities surrounding Adairsville and is still owned by the same contractor who originally purchased it.
2004 – The first domestically-built asphalt roller begins production with the SW800 double drum 79″.
2005 – The first generation vibratory pneumatic tire roller (GW750) starts shipping to customers across North America. This unique PTR features the only vibratory tire system in the world and is still produced today in the form of the improved GW754.
2006 – The 1000th machine is built in Adairsville: an SV505D smooth drum soil compactor. Many members of the production team in this photo are still working at SAKAI all these years later.
2006 – We began supplying oscillating asphalt rollers to US and Canada paving contractors w/ the SW651ND.
2016 – The 2000th machine is built in Adairsville: an SV540D smooth drum soil roller.
2018 – Sakai America production line employees celebrate the 100th anniversary of the SAKAI brand. (SAKAI was founded in Japan in 1918 by Kinnosuke Sakai).
2021 – Sakai America celebrates 20 years of US manufacturing.
2024 – SV204 domestic production starts. Going forward, all soil rollers for the US and Canadian market are now built in the USA.
2024 – First US-manufactured GUARDMAN equipped asphalt roller rolls off the assembly line. GUARDMAN is our industry-first automatic emergency braking system that detects personnel, objects, and equipment in the path of the roller.
